The Framework of the Lesson

Successful activity sessions require planning and preparation. While the lessons are provided in this guide, you may need to adjust or change the order of some of the work in a specific session. Each lesson ideally has a warm-up, a skill focus, time for ball work, fun and games, time for celebrating and a quick good-bye.

The warm-up is a great way to develop listening skills, encourage children to think about the different parts of their bodies and prepare them for more energetic work.

The skill focus is a time to practice moving in different ways including marching, rolling, hopping, sliding, running and crawling. This work is developed through relays, small group work and large group games.

During fun and games, the children get an opportunity to play some old favourites and new large group games. It is usually considered a more ‘free’ part of the lesson.

The children always appreciate the cool down and it is a quiet and purposeful time for reflection and celebration. Each child goes home with a small reward (ie: a sticker) and a smile on their face!
